Schaut man sich die Filmliste des Regisseur Joseph Merhi an, so sieht man ungefähr ein dutzend Filme die es bis dato nur auf VHS in den Handel geschafft haben. Die meisten Produktionen sind Direct to VHS oder TV Werke. Sei es „Tiger Kid“ von 1993, „Zero Tolerance“ von 1994 oder auch „Maximum Force“ von 1992. So wie auch der Film „Night of the Wilding“ von 1990 der eigens für´s TV produziert wurde.
Statt wie üblich ein Actioner handelt es sich hier um fast einen reinen Gerichtsthriller. Die Thematik der Selbstjustiz ist umstritten, und wird auch in diesem Film von zwei Seiten betrachtet und ins Bild gerückt. Im Film geht es um den Anwalt Joseph, gespielt von Eric Estrada. Vielen bekannt als Poncho aus der TV Serie „Chips – Cops auf Rädern“ aus den 70er Jahren. Joseph handelt oft nur nach dem Geldbündel was ihm seine Klienten auch schon mal im Schuhkarton überreichen. Ob die beschuldigte Person schuldig ist, ist eher zweitrangig. Ganz im Gegensatz zu seiner Ex-Frau Marion, gespielt von Kathrin Lautner. Sie ist ehrgeizig und verfolgt den Sinn nach Gerechtigkeit. Joseph bekommt den Auftrag drei Jugendliche zu verteidigen, die einen Raub und Vergewaltigung verübt haben. Die Anklage übernimmt in diesem brisanten Fall ausgerechnet seine Ex-Frau. Doch Joseph zweifelt langsam an den Jugendlichen und an seiner Verfahrensweise. Und die drei Jugendlichen wollen auf keinen Fall in den Knast und begeben sich auf verdammt dünnes Eis!
Schon zu Anfang bekommt man die Taten der drei Jugendlichen gezeigt. Somit wird einem die Spannung ob sie tatsächlich schuldig sind, von vornerein genommen. Obwohl viele Dinge im Fall sehr offensichtlich dargestellt sind, tappen viele Charaktere im Dunkeln. Und die Ermittlungen nehmen ihren Lauf. Die Story ist recht einseitig inszeniert worden.
Schauspielerisch betrachtet bewegen sich alle Schauspieler auf einem gesunden Level. Auch was die Sets angeht bekommt man gute Abwechslung geboten. Die Geschichte wandert gut zwischen Gericht und anderen Locations hin und her. Lediglich die Sounduntermalung wirkt schon nach kurzer Zeit sehr nervend. Da hier anscheinend nicht sonderlich darauf geachtet wurde, das die ausgewählte Musik auch zur jeweiligen Szene passt.
Abgerundet wird das Spektakel noch mit einer Verfolgungsjagd zu Fuß und einem heftigen Autostunt. Der zwar rein gar nichts mit der Story zu tun hat, aber in einer PM Produktion nicht fehlen darf. Dazu gesellt sich noch eine fragwürdige Szene mit Joseph und Selbstjustiz am eigenen Leibe mit einem Freispruch vor Gericht.
Die Grundidee des Films ist gut gelungen, doch hapert es an der Umsetzung. Viele belanglose Dialoge zwischen allen Beteiligten mindern den Unterhaltungswert sehr stark. Die Szenen im Gerichtssaal hat man schon beeindruckender und spannender in anderen Filmen gesehen. Somit bleibt dem Film der Unbekanntheitsgrad durchaus erhalten und tristet ein weiteres Dasein in der Rige der unbekannten Filme. Kein Geheimtip aber für zwischendurch eine Sichtung wert.
